Ride With Us

We took our first trip today
we sat in the van and cried
we all buckled up our seat belts
there wasn't a car seat inside

Brandon didn't know what to do
his hands were totally free
you used to throw your bottle down
and make him pick it up to be silly

Dylan looked out the window and cried
you two used to always play in the car
We wondered how long before he missed you
we didn't get very far

Daddy listened to your song
tears fell down his tired face
he tried to wipe them away
but they already left their trace

I looked out the window
wondered how I would get them all through
when all my heart and head could think about
was how much I am missing you

We reached our destination
the emotions had worn us out
we sat in the drive for over an hour
no one could bring themselves to get out

On the long road again
sobs took over the radio
we tried our very best
we just weren't ready to go

We ended up in the only place
that our hearts really wanted to be
we sat over you my sweet baby boy
and talked to you quietly

You rest only a few blocks away
whenever we leave town we'll see
our precious little baby boy
the strongest limb on our family tree
